Review || Heima is home in icelandic - Laia Soler

Hi guys!

As I said in the first post, I’m preparing to do the FCE exam (First Certificate in English) in June, so I would like to write some posts in that language. So, please, if I make a mistake, tell me it because I want to do it to learn. And now, let start with the review about my favourite book.

Title: Heima is home in icelandic

Editorial: Neo Platform

Synopsis:

Can you feel at home hundreds of kilometres away from it?
It’s not a lot of fun seeing life in black and white.
Laura has to endure a strange illness that prevents her from appreciating colours, but if life has been grey lately it’s not just because she suffers from achromatopsia. She’s just broken up with her boyfriend and her parents haven’t stopped fighting since their divorce. Because of this, she decides to get away from everything and jumps on the first plane leaving the airport.

Fate takes her to Reykjavik, Iceland. There she meets a nice guy called Orri, who suggests that she set out on a journey around the country with him and his not so nice-friend Guðjon. It might not be the greatest idea, but it’s not like Iceland has a lot of other options for a girl who’s just run away from home.

What Laura would never have been to able to guess is that these Icelanders are hiding a secret, one that even for someone like her is scarcely believable, and that this trip is going to change her forever.

About Laia Soler:

Laia Soler (Lleida, 1991) has always been surrounded by the written word. Literature loving ever since she can remember, she has studied Journalism and is the Webmaster of the literary critic blog Paper wings. The days that tear us apart is her first novel.

My opinion:
Heima is home in icelandic is an original story written by the spanish writter, Laia Soler. It’s about a girl, whose name is Laura and who have an illness, so she only can see two colors: black and white (achromatopsia). One day, she travels to Iceland and meets Orri, a mysterious boy who invites her to travel around de island with his best friend, Guðjon (John for Laura), who is so mysterious too. Laura (or Heima for Guðjon) accepts and they start a fantastic travel.

It’s so different from other stories because it’s so romantic and it has some fantastic things too. Moreover, you will discover the secrets of Orri and John with Heima and yoy never know what will happen in the end.

This book is so exciting amusing and enjoyable, and it will teach you a lot of values. Also, you’ll probably tear up some times when you are reading it.

I would recomend this book to people who enjoy romantic stories and fantasy too, and to people who want to think and reflect upon some important things, such as the importance of friendship and the family.
